strategy 20:
Collaborative Books
What is it? Books made by the students, where each child contributes one page to the finished product. Children use it to retell their favorite story, illustrate a poem, or write a nonfiction book or biography. Purpose? It can be used to introduce the writing process at the beginning of the year. Because children share the work, they are completed more quickly and it takes less time for teachers to conference with children and assist them with revising and editing. Implementation: Young children simply create one draft, while older students can fine tune their work. Teachers oversee the process, and spend time conferencing with each student to help them edit or work through the process. Steps
